RAF Northolt is the oldest RAF Station, being opened in 1915 as a Royal Flying Corps airfield.
It has also the longest history of continuous use of any RAF airfield.
Northolt was the first Station to host Hawker Hurricane Squadrons which was to play a very important part in the defence of London during the Battle of Britain.
Post war, the airfield became a hub for European civil aviation while Heathrow was under construction. In the early 1950’s more than 50,000 aircraft movements per year, making it the busiest airport in Europe until the opening of Heathrow in 1954 when Northolt became a solely military facility.
Today the station hosts:
32 Sqn RAF, The Royal Squadron
600 Sqn RAuxF, City of London
601 Sqn RAuxF, County of London
63 Squadron RAF Regiment. Queens Colour Squadron
